School council looking for treat day ideas

I received the following from one of our school councils:

Our School Council is interested in what other schools have done for "treat days", particularly if anyone has found a successful initiative that doesn't include food. Or a food item that would recognize the varied cultures in our school, and possibly suppliers.

Also, we would be interested in doing a spring community BBQ, and would like to hear how other councils have made a successful event happen.

Do you have any ideas to share? Post them in the comments section. If you want to send templates or other information, email it to me at alison.farbar@peelsb.com.

Thanks!

Presentations from Nov. 29 school council orientation now posted

It was great to see so many school council members out at the Great Start Orientation Event last Thursday at West Credit Secondary School. I've gathered a number of the presentations from the event and have posted them in the school council section of peelschools.org. You can find them here.

Also, for those of you who attended, please make sure to share your feedback by completing the survey. We want to make sure the event is useful for our council members and your feedback helps.

Sharing ideas between councils

A number of council members made the suggestion again this year to have a mechanism for council members to share ideas or ask questions of each other. I created this blog last year after hearing the same comments at the event. The idea behind the blog is to provide a way for council members to share projects they're working on, or to ask for suggestions from other councils. I invite you to send me anything you have to share to alison.farbar@peelsb.com so I can write a post. You can also submit a guest post. This blog will become an archive of information for councils.

Thanks... feel free to share!
